DIES International Deans' Course Southeast Asia 2022/23 Announcement and Call for Applications

Applications accepted until October 31st, 2021

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK), the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences and the Centre for Higher Education (CHE) are jointly organising the DIES International Deans’ Course for Southeast Asia.

This intensive Training Course is part of the DIES programme (Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies) coordinated by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) since 2001 and funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Despite the currently ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation and the worldwide travel restrictions preventing reliable planning, the programme committee decided that the first phase of training will be held on-site in Germany, with one week in Osnabrück and one week in Berlin:

Part I: ten days seminar in Osnabrück and Berlin, Germany from June 26th to July 8th, 2022
Part II: five days online seminar from November 7th to 11th, 2022
Part III: five days seminar in Southeast Asia from February 6th to February 10th, 2023

In case the COVID-19 pandemic will make such meetings difficult, cumbersome and for travel inconvenient, we will switch to an online format. The programme design and the experience with two complete virtual courses will allow the organisers to alter the mode of delivery to online if needed.

The key objective of the course is to bring together a group of about 30 newly elected deans, vice-deans and heads of departments from universities in the Southeast Asian Region and to prepare them for the challenges of holding a dean’s position in a changing higher education landscape. Issues such as strategic faculty management, financial management, quality assurance and leadership will be key parts of this course. A soft skills training and exchange with German university leaders about higher education reforms will be included as well.

Please note, German travel and entry regulations are very strict. All applicants are advised to double-check whether they can fulfil the requirements listed on the website of the General Foreign Office

Application period is closing on October 31st, 2021.
